On the outskirts of Poitiers, close to the university campus, the domain of Le Deffend houses the conservatory of fruit, vegetable, medicinal, and tree species of the western part of France as well as ornamental collections of rosebushes and bamboo. The conservation of wild species is also one of the conservatory's objectives, namely aquatic plants and plants of the Vienne valley's humid habitats.
